Renewal of Commitment

After months of prayerful discernment, Carmela Capistrano, finally decided to renew another term of three years with the Columban Lay Mission of the Missionary Society of St. Columban. In her speech during the eucharistic celebration to renew her commitment, she thanked her God for the courage to answer the call of mission, her mother for her unwaivering support, Columban family here in the Philippines for their warm and welcoming heart, and for her Columban family in Pakistan for their trust and their invitation to work with them again for another three years. She asked Christ to send forth the Holy Spirit to help her be faithful to this undertaking of deepening her love for the Father and the commitment to serve Him through others. The eucharistic celebration was presided by Philippine Regional Director Pat O'Donoghue.

After the solemn occasion of mission sending and contract signing, there was a short program of songs. The men of the formation house whom we endearingly call the Boys of 42 (Rosario Drive) serenaded Carmela. Kyung Ja also delighted everyone with her rendition of "The Rose". Columban Sister novice Venus backed up by the Boys of 42 also gave a song... and several more.

The evening ended with a healthy meal of green salad and cucumber kimchi with yummy chicken cordon bleu, beef teppanyaki, fried breaded fish, white rice, and ice cream for dessert.

Carmela flew to Lahore on Thursday August 27.

To you Carms, we wish you another three enriching years ahead. May you continue to be a blessing to the Columbans, to the people of Pakistan, and to others as well.
